Goedkoop & Partners recently merged with a large lawfirm in Leiden, close to Schiphol Airport. Robert Jan Stoop entered into the partnership and Michiel Goedkoop withdraw from equity and continues as managing director and as lawyer. The firm, TeekensKarstens advocaten notarissen is a unique combination of a lawyers practice and notaries, working efficiently together in many areas, mostly in the M&A practice, real estate and family law. The frim employs 150 lawyers and staff and is fast growing. The aim is to acquire firms in the large cities around the head office.
TeekensKarstens is a member of the GGI Geneva Group, a combination of lawfirms and accountant firms. However, TeekensKarstens enjoys to be a member of law Europe, which group of firms is far more personal.

DMH Stallard opens new London office: As a result of continuous growth, London and South East based law firm DMH Stallard, has moved into new offices at 6 New Street Square, New Fetter Lane, London EC4.The acquisition of two floors of 6 New Street Square is a significant investment which underpins DMH Stallard’s ambitious and committed plans for growth in London. Initially this new location will accommodate lawyers from the Firm’s Jewry Street office and those based in Wimpole Street, following the merger with Courts & Co. Law Europe announces support for ECLA
Law Europe and the European Company Lawyers Association(ECLA) , a representative body of in-house counsel accross Europe have announced a three-year agreement for Law Europe to support ECLA both financially and intellectually. Under this agreement Law Europe will sponsor pan European and local conferences arranged by ECLA for in-house counsel. It will also work with the association to promote the interests of in-house counsel by providing seminars and legal guidance on EU legislation as well national legislations around Europe.

Belgian Member merges
Law Europe informs that our Belgian member, Beius, has merged with two other Belgian Law Firms. The new Firm, Philippe & Partners is a full service Firm with over 50 lawyers in offices located in Brussels, Liège, Charleroi and Luxembourg. Reduction of Annual Fee
Law Europe informs that the Annual General Meeting 2007 held in Hamburg last June, approved a reduction in the annual fee for new members by 50% during the first year of membership and 25% for the second year. For further information please contact Pablo Bonfill.

During April 2008, “Dragomir & Associates” organized, in cooperation with ELSA Bucharest (The European Law Students Association), the conference having as main theme ” Business Acquisition”. It the same time, there was organized a simulated trial competition with prizes for the students of the Law Faculty of Bucharest.
Also, “Dragomir & Associates” organized a recruitment campaign among the students and graduates of the Law Faculty of Bucharest and selected 8 of them, who will participate to a 3 months professional stage practice.

In May 2008, the European Lawyer Magazine published the article called “Combating late payment in commercial transactions in Romania – the transposing in the Romanian Law of the Directive 2000 / 35 / CE of the European Parliament and Council - positive aspects and important omissions”, written by Raluca Andrei – partner with “Dragomir & Associates”. This article follows another article called “Be careful what you say. Anything you say can and will be used against you” published in October 2007 and wrote by Alis Patlageanu, also partner with “Dragomir & Associates”.

ECLA - ERA Conference: 3rd European Forum for In-house counsel
For the third consecutive year, ERA and ECLA are organising the European Forum for In-House Counsel, combining the pragmatism of an in-house lawyer association with the expertise of a first-class European training institute. Law Europe is providing two speakers: Denis Philippe (Philippe and Partners) and Gwen Godfrey (DMH Stallard). Law Europe jointly with DMH Stallard and Philippe & Partners, will offer a drink at the conference hall to all participants at the end of the first conference day i.e. Thursday April 24. The London Employment Group of DMH Stallard will be hosting a Business Immigration Seminar on the 10 and 23 April 2008 at our offices in Gatwick and London. In March the first proposed change to business immigration rules will be implemented, effecting all employers in the UK. Law Europe delegates have attended MIPIM Conference 2008 in Cannes, last March 3-6, 2008. MIPIM is the world's premier summit on real estate market. Law Europe delegates from Scotland and England already attended MIPIM 2007 where explored opportunities to present Law Europe to the international real estate market. See Conference Programme.

Law Europe AGM 2008
